BEL AIR (Md.) -- Despite a two-run homer from pinch hitter Caleb Beatty in the bottom of the eighth inning to help Pitt Community College close to within a run, the Bulldogs never overcame a calamitous sixth inning in dropping their first game of the 2016 NJCAA DI Baseball Eastern District Championship to Monroe College, 8-7.
Pitt led 2-0 heading into the sixth but found itself trailing the Mustangs by the end of the frame, 6-4. Monroe added a run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth and managed to hold off the Bulldogs, who scored once in the seventh and twice in the eighth when Beatty homered to right center.
PCC will play its second game of the championship tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Harford Sports Complex.
