WINTERVILLE—For the first time since 2010, Pitt Community College will host the Region X Conference Softball Championship.
The tournament will take place April 24-26 at Winterville Recreation Park on Sylvania Street. Game one is set for 11 a.m. Friday between fourth-seeded Harford Community College (Md.) and No. 5-seed USC-Salkehatchie (S.C.). Following that contest, third-seeded Louisburg College will take on sixth-seeded USC-Sumter (S.C.).
PCC (20-9 overall, 9-4 Region X), which is seeded second for the tournament, will play the winner of the USC-Sumter-Louisburg College matchup on Saturday at 10 a.m. At the same time, top-seeded Spartanburg Methodist College (34-8 overall, 13-2 Region X) will face the Harford-USC-Salkhatchie winner.
Admission to the championship is $7 for one day, $12 for two, or $15 for all three.
For the first time ever, the winner of the conference tourney will advance to a district tournament for the right to compete in the NJCAA Division I Fast-Pitch Softball Championship in St. George, Utah.
This year's district tourney will pit the Region X Conference Tournament champion against the second-place finisher from Region 22. The best two-out-of-three series will take place May 2-3 at Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, S.C.
