Coach Mason Mullins is entering into his 3rd season as an Assistant coach of the PCC Men’s Basketball team, under the guidance of his father Head Coach Darrick Mullins. Mason is a native of Greenville, NC and graduated from JH Rose. He went on to attend UNC Pembroke where he graduated in the summer of 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Science in Exercise & Sports Science with a concentration in Sports Management.
Even though Coach Mason has been around the game of basketball his entire life, he became heavily involved with the Men’s Basketball Program at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for four years. During his tenure with the team and program, he has worked in a variety of different positions, varying from on-campus recruiting to in-game coaching. While employed as Student Assistant Coach, he played part of Two (2) Division II NCAA Appearances (2013, 2015), finished 7th in Southeast regional ranking (2013), Co-East Division Champions - Peach Belt Conference (2015), best season in UNC Pembroke History going 26-6 (2015), finished 3rd overall in the Southeast regional ranking (2015), and finished 17th in the nation in NABC Coaches Poll (2015).
Coach Mason’s time at UNC-P enabled him to increase his knowledge on scouting and recruiting of top talent, enhanced his basketball network, and refined his film editing skills through software known as Synergy. Coach Mason has also held duties including creation of opponent scouting report, handling and distribution of equipment, and coordination of summer camps.
For Coach Mason, being a Bulldog means “Passion, pride and family”. His responsibilities with working with PCC’s Men’s Basketball program include coordinating all recruiting aspects of the program including scouting, managing official and unofficial campus visits and setting up the recruiting calendar. He actively developed student-athlete talent by conducting extensive individual workouts with position players including skill workouts, and supervising the open gym. Handles pre-game routine which included shooting, ball handling and overall team routine. Actively developing the student-athlete’s strength and conditioning program throughout preseason and regular season.
Coach Mason possesses a determination, ambition, and an ability that has a significant impact on the student-athletes at Pitt Community College. He is able to achieve these abilities by, assisting them in academic growth and player skills development, while grooming young men to become productive and successful members of society. Mullins intends on making a positive impact on as many young people that he can, through the game of basketball, with the aspirations of following in his father’s footsteps and going on to a head coach one day.
