Forbes Proves Too Hot for Sandhills to Handle

RALEIGH--DeMarkus Forbes scored 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds to power Pitt Community College past Sandhills Community College Friday, 84-78, in the Lids Team Sports (Region X) Blast-Off Tournament.

With his team trailing by three in the second half at 49-46, Forbes sparked a Bulldogs surge with back-to-back steals that led to breakaway dunks and ultimately a 54-50 PCC lead with 12:04 remaining.

Pitt, which was tied with Sandhills at halftime at 34-all, also benefitted from stellar second-half play by sophomore JaQuan Blount, who scored 10 of his 16 total points in the final 20 minutes.

PCC, which is now 2-2 overall, led by as many as 11 points at 71-60 with 6:35 to go.

Despite going 20-for-34 from the free-throw line for the game, the Bulldogs sealed their second victory of the season by connecting on six of their final eight free-throw attempts.

Next up for PCC is a trip to Fayetteville Nov. 25 to take on Methodist University's junior varsity squad at 7 p.m.
